Google unveiled Android Jelly Bean last week alongside the Google Nexus 7 and since then speculation about what devices will be upgraded to the new operating system has been circulating online.
Samsung have now made a comment on the situation in a response to Pocketnow. Samsung's response clearly states that both the Google Nexus S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be getting an upgrade to Android Jelly Bean.
This will be a welcome surprise to Google Nexus S (pictured above) owners who wouldn't have expected their aging smartphone to get updated. The Nexus S was the launch device for Android Gingerbread which shows just how long ago it launched !
The same statement also suggests that both the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy SIII are due to be upgraded to Jelly Bean. We'd have expected both of these to get the update and apparently the Galaxy SIII got a last minute upgrade to 2GB of RAM in order to be future-proof.
In related news a separate rumour suggests that the Android Jelly Bean update will become available for the Galaxy SIII in the 4th quarter of 2012. That will make it one of the first non-Google devices to be upgraded to the new operating system.
