HTC One M9 release date, specification and price

HTC is known for making beautiful phones and the One M9 is no exception. In fact it’s the company’s best looking handset yet. But with high end specs its beauty is more than just skin deep.

If you’ve got your eye on it or just want to know more about it you’ve come to right place. Read on for the specs and design details in full, as well as information on what it will cost you to get your hands on it.

Release date

There’s no need to wait for the HTC One M9 as it’s out now and available from numerous high street and online stores, as well as from HTC’s own website.

Specification

The HTC One M9 is an impressively powerful phone, with a 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 810 processor, which has four cores clocked at 2.0GHz and the other four clocked at 1.5GHz, allowing it to switch between higher and lower power cores depending on the task at hand. It also has 3GB of RAM, so it’s an accomplished multitasker.

The screen isn’t really an upgrade over the HTC One M8’s, as both phones have a 5.0-inch 1080 x 1920 Super LCD display with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch, however it’s a sharp and impressive display with good colours.

HTC One M9 Grey

The camera has been heavily upgraded, as the HTC One M9 has a 20.7 megapixel snapper on the back with a dual-LED flash for more natural colour reproduction.

It can also shoot video in 2160p at 30fps and there’s an impressive 4 UltraPixel sensor on the front, allowing you to take bright and detailed selfies, even when the light is poor.

The HTC One M9 runs Android 5.0, overlaid with HTC’s Sense 7 interface, which includes new features like a homescreen widget which displays different apps based on where you are, a powerful theme creator and an improved version of BlinkFeed, with meal suggestions when you’re out and about.

There’s 32GB of built in storage along with a microSD card slot with support for cards of up to 128GB and the phone has a 2840 mAh battery, quoted for up to 402 hours of standby time or 25 hours and 20 minutes of talk time.

It supports Wi-Fi, 3G, Cat 6 4G (for speeds of up to 300Mbps), Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and infrared and it has dual front-facing BoomSound speakers with Dolby Audio Surround, delivering great sound as far as smartphone speakers go.

Design

HTC One M9 Design

The HTC One M9 is perhaps the best looking phone available. It’s not the slimmest at 9.6mm thick, far from it in fact. But with a full metal body, a gently curved back and a two-tone finish in Gunmetal Grey, Amber Gold, Silver/Rose gold or Gold/Pink it looks and feels like a work of true craftsmanship.

It’s the product of several years of design refinements and it’s hard to see where HTC can really improve on it next year.

One thing it is lacking though is dust and water resistance, so perhaps rather than changing the appearance HTC will work on making it more durable, but if you want to be the envy of your friends the beautiful, premium HTC One M9 will certainly help.

Price

The HTC One M9 is a flagship phone with high end specs and a stunning design, so of course it also comes at quite a price. The SIM free RRP is £579.99 and as it’s only just launched you’re not likely to get it for much less than that even if you shop around.

On contract the prices are a bit more variable, but at time of writing you probably won’t find it for less than £37.50 per month on a 24 month contract with no upfront cost. You do at least have a choice of network though, with EE, O2, Vodafone and Three all stocking the phone.
