Huawei Mate 10 Pro coming soon

If you’ve resisted upgrading your phone yet this year you could be in for a treat, as the flagship Huawei Mate 10 Pro is hitting stores on November 17th and it’s packing some of the best specs and features we’ve seen.

Mate 10 Pro processor

The highlight is perhaps its Kirin 970 chipset. This octa-core processor has four cores running at 2.4GHz and four going at 1.8GHz, which makes for top-end power, but it’s not done there, as the Mate 10 Pro (along with the standard Huawei Mate 10 which isn’t launching in the UK) is the first phone with an AI processor.

This will be especially beneficial for the Mate 10 Pro’s camera, as it means the phone can automatically recognise scenes and objects and adjust the camera settings accordingly, but it could also learn from the way you use the phone in general, and optimize the settings and power.

The Mate 10 Pro also has up to 6GB of RAM, which is more than almost any other handset, so it should be one of the fastest phones around.

And going back to the camera, it’s a dual-lens one with a 20MP monochrome and 12MP colour pairing, allowing it to combine image data from both lenses for more detailed photos. It also has 2x lossless zoom, optical image stabilisation and an f/1.6 aperture, which means it should be better for low-light photography than most rivals.

It’s a phablet phone with a massive, almost bezel-free 6-inch 1080 x 2160 AMOLED display, which offers great contrast and vibrant colours and has a super-widescreen 18:9 aspect ratio.

Other highlights include a huge 4,000mAh battery, far bigger than the juice packs in the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 or iPhone X, and smarter too, as it intelligently allocates resources to maximise life.

The Mate 10 Pro also sports a premium glass-backed design, with a distinctive reflective strip running across the rear, water and dust resistance, a fingerprint scanner and a generous 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Exact UK prices haven’t yet been confirmed but we’d expect this to cost upwards of £700 SIM-free, a price it looks to easily justify.
