There was a time when calling abroad was guaranteed to be expensive, but these days on Three it can be very affordable, as the network has a pair of ‘Call Abroad’ add-ons designed for those who call abroad a lot, as they make international calls to a wide range of destinations a lot more affordable.
Below we’ll explain the different Three Call Abroad options, how to get them, where you can call with it, and what to do if your location or plan type isn’t covered.
At the time of writing there are two different Call Abroad add-ons available. The cheapest is ‘Call Abroad 100’, which costs £5 per month and gives you 100 international minutes to use in 55 countries. So this is ideal for those who only make short or infrequent international calls.
If you need more minutes, then you can alternatively get ‘Call Abroad Unlimited’. This gives you unlimited minutes for £10 per month, valid in the same 55 countries. If you’re calling abroad a lot, then this could save you a fortune.
With Call Abroad you can call the following places:
Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bermuda, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Columbia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guam, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and the US.
Three Call Abroad is available to Pay Monthly (SIM Only and phone) and business customers. The former can add it to their account by calling 333 from their Three phone, or through the Three app or their account on Three’s website.
Business customers can add Call Abroad by calling 337 from their Three phone.
No, you have to be on a Pay Monthly plan to get Call Abroad. However, Three does offer rates from as low as 3p per minute when calling abroad on Pay As You Go if you add the country’s prefix (also known as a shortcode) before the number you’re calling.
These cheap rates are available in 28 destinations. You can see the full list and relevant shortcodes here.
Call Abroad allows you to call standard landline and mobile numbers for included countries. Other numbers – such as special and premium numbers – are usually excluded.
If you’re calling a country that isn’t covered by Call Abroad then you’ll be charged Three’s standard rates. These vary depending on where you’re calling, but it’s typically a lot more expensive.
Calling Brazil for example will cost £3 per minute on Pay Monthly.
