There was a time when calling abroad was guaranteed to be expensive, but these days on Three it can be very affordable, as the network has a trio of ‘Call Abroad’ add-ons designed for those who call abroad a lot, as they make international calls to a wide range of destinations a lot more affordable.
Below we’ll explain the different Three Call Abroad options, how to get them, where you can call with it, and what to do if your location isn’t covered.
At the time of writing there are two different Call Abroad add-ons available on SIM Only or a phone contract, and one on Pay As You Go.
Of the Pay Monthly ones, the cheapest is ‘Call Abroad - 100 Minutes’, which costs £7 per month and gives you 100 international minutes to use in 55 countries. So this is ideal for those who only make short or infrequent international calls.
If you need more minutes, then you can alternatively get ‘Call Abroad - Unlimited’. This gives you unlimited minutes for £12 per month, valid in the same 55 countries. If you’re calling abroad a lot, then this could save you a fortune.
And if you’re on a Pay As You Go plan, there’s ‘Call Abroad - 200 Minutes’, which for £5 per month lets you call 39 destinations for up to 200 minutes.
With Call Abroad on a Pay Monthly plan you can call the following places:

Whereas with Call Abroad on a Pay As You Go plan you can call:

Three Call Abroad is available to Pay Monthly (SIM Only and phone) and Pay As You Go customers. Business customers can also access similar add-ons, but they’re called ‘International Voice 100’ and ‘International Voice Unlimited’.
Regardless of your plan type, you can purchase one of these add-ons via your online Three account.
Call Abroad allows you to call standard landline and mobile numbers for included countries. Other numbers – such as special and premium numbers – are usually excluded.
If you’re calling a country that isn’t covered by Call Abroad then you’ll be charged Three’s standard rates. These vary depending on where you’re calling, but it’s typically a lot more expensive.
Calling Brazil for example will cost £3 per minute on Pay Monthly.
On Pay Monthly, Three Call Abroad auto-renews each month, so you don’t need to worry about remembering to add it to your account again. On Pay As You Go it expires after one calendar month.
Once you’ve got the Call Abroad add-on, simply dial 00 followed by the country code, then add the number you want to call. For example, Spain’s country code is 34, so to call Spain you’d dial 0034 followed by the phone number you’re trying to reach.
Yes, Call Abroad is designed for calling other countries from the UK, but if you’re abroad at the time of the call then you may be able to use your normal allowances via Three’s Go Roam service.
Yes, you’ll get a text to let you know when you’ve used up most of your minutes, and then another when you’ve fully used up your allowance.
You can cancel Call Abroad at any time, through your My3 account, the Three app, or by calling Three on 333 from your Three phone.
