Overview

The Google Pixel 4 XL has features you won’t get almost anywhere else. One such feature is Motion Sense, a tech that uses a radar chip to detect your hand movements, so you can swipe the air above the screen to mute an alarm or skip a song, for example. Given the hardware required, the only other phone with this feature is the standard Pixel 4.

The Pixel 4 XL also runs Android 10 out of the box, putting its software ahead of almost all other Android handsets. Plus, this is Android as Google intended, making for the slickest and arguably best take on it. And being a Google handset it will be first in line for software updates, while rivals will typically wait months – if they get them at all.

The Google Pixel 4 XL also handles the basics brilliantly. It has a 6.3-inch 1440 x 3040 screen, making it as big and high-resolution as you’d expect a flagship to be, but with a 90Hz refresh rate interactions will seem smoother than they do on most rival handsets (which are stuck at 60Hz).

The Pixel 4 XL also has a dual-lens rear camera, with both a 12.2MP main lens and a 16MP telephoto one (allowing for 2x optical zoom). That might sound like a basic setup for a flagship, but the Pixel 3 XL had just one rear camera and still takes better photos than most high-end phones, so expect serious photographic skills from this.

Plus, the Pixel 4 XL has a high-end Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB of RAM, a water-resistant build, a 3,700mAh battery, and facial recognition, making for a complete package that matches most rivals even before you get to the standout features highlighted above.
