The iPhone 16 series is here, with new buttons and a chipset that’s ready for AI

The most highly anticipated phones of 2024 have now arrived, as Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

And there’s a lot new on these phones, starting with the addition of a Camera Control button, which lets you take photos, shoot videos, and adjust camera settings all with a physical button.

The base iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus have also inherited the Action button that the Pro models already had, giving you a customisable hardware shortcut.

Beyond buttons, these phones all have a new chipset – either the A18 or the A18 Pro, depending on which model you choose, and this is designed with AI in mind, as well as being extremely powerful.

Other upgrades include bigger screens for the Pro models, with the iPhone 16 Pro growing to 6.3 inches, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max being massive at 6.9 inches. The 16 Pro also gains the excellent 5x zoom camera from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and both the Pro and Pro Max have a new 48MP ultra-wide camera.

Those are the headlines, but you’ll also enjoy better battery life on the new iPhones, along with faster 25W wireless charging, and all the great things already found on the iPhone 15 series.

So there’s a lot to like here, and if you want to grab one of the new models, you’ll be able to pre-order one from Friday, September 13, with the phones set to ship on the following Friday (September 20).

SIM-free prices start at £799 for the iPhone 16, £899 for the iPhone 16 Plus, £999 for the iPhone 16 Pro, and £1,199 for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Though of course if you buy one of these phones on contract you won’t have to pay anything like that much in one go, with prices varying depending on the plan you choose.
