If you’re into mobile games then you’re in for a treat, as the Moto Z2 Play is coming soon to Three and the network is throwing in a Gamepad Moto Mod with it.
The Z2 Play has a lot to offer gamers, starting with its big 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 display with a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch, so you get crisp visuals and because it’s Super AMOLED they’re vibrant too.
The Moto Z2 Play also has a 3,000mAh battery offering up to 30 hours of use before it needs charging, so you can game all day, and then it gets 8 hours of juice from just a 15-minute charge. There's plenty of power for your games too, thanks to a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 chipset and either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. And plenty of storage for them, with 32GB or 64GB built in and a microSD card slot.
But because Three is bundling the Moto Z2 Play with a Gamepad Moto Mod you can really take your gaming to the next level. The Gamepad is a snap-on attachment with its own battery, two control sticks, a D-pad and four action buttons, so it turns your phone into a handheld console, with no pairing necessary, and the bundle is exclusive to Three.
To get you started the Moto Z2 Play also comes pre-loaded with the game explorer app, giving you access to over 200 games.
And Three is the perfect partner for such a bundle too, as thanks to its high data limits and Feel At Home service it’s great for online gaming, whether in the UK or abroad.
While the Moto Z2 Play is great for gamers, it's also a great all-rounder, as it additionally features the likes of a stylish metal build that comes in at a remarkably slim 6mm thick. Plus it’s splash and dust resistant, and there’s a 12MP camera, which uses both phase detection and laser autofocus and a dual-LED flash, to help you get sharp, detailed photos whatever the lighting.
There’s also support for recording video at up to 2160p at 30fps, plus a 5MP front-facing camera
There’s a fingerprint scanner too of course, which doubles as a way to navigate the phone, plus NFC – so you can make contactless payments, and the Moto Z2 Play runs Android Nougat with an upgrade to Android Oreo planned. The software is close to stock Android too, so there’s no bloat, but there are some thoughtful additions, such as gesture controls.
Three hasn’t confirmed pricing yet, but this shouldn’t break the bank, as it’s an upper mid-ranger and sells from around £350 SIM-free. You’ll be able to grab it on Three from April, with the Gamepad included.
And if you don’t fancy the Gamepad you can always invest in another Moto Mod, as the Moto Z2 Play supports them all. Or, if you want a different phone but like the look of the Gamepad that's an option too, as it's compatible any phone in the Moto Z family - though in most cases you will have to buy them separately.
