The Google Pixel 9a is Google’s mid-range alternative to the high-end Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. So, this phone costs less, but it has a lot of what makes those phones great.

For one thing, the Google Pixel 9a has the same 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED display as the standard Pixel 9, with a high peak brightness of 2,700 nits. It also has the same custom Tensor G4 chipset, which helps it excel at AI tasks.

In fact, the Google Pixel 9a is an AI phone through and through, with Google’s Gemini assistant built in, and all sorts of AI tools to help you take and edit photos, write, plan, create emoji and images, and more.

The Google Pixel 9a also has a healthy 8GB of RAM, and it has a highly accomplished dual-lens camera, with a 48MP main sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide (with a 120-degree field of view). Google’s phones always take excellent pictures, and thanks to AI you can do clever things like adding the photographer to a group photo, or combining multiple images so everyone in a photo looks their best.

There’s also a 13MP front-facing camera, 4K video recording, and the Google Pixel 9a runs Android 15, so its software is up to date – and this being a Google phone, it will get new Android updates on day one.

But every few months you’ll get new features too, through ‘Pixel Drops’, and with a water-resistant build and drop protection, this is a phone you don’t need to worry too much about.

It’s reliable in other ways too, with its 5,100mAh battery delivering 24-hour life, or up to 100 hours if you switch on Extreme Battery Saver mode.
