Apple Smartphones To Become Dominant Business Platform ?

Blackberry smartphones have been the dominant force in business for a long time , but a new study conducted by Virgin Media Business shows just how much the landscape has changed in recent times.

Virgin Media Business studied 500 of the UK Chief Information Officers (CIO) with 37 per cent expecting Apple's iPhone to be the dominant business smartphone in the the next few years. That gave them a narrow 7 per cent victory over Samsung's Galaxy range , which got 30 per cent of the vote.

This isn't all that surprising because almost every major mobile battle is currently fought between Apple and Samsung. The power of both companies has also grown vastly in recent times and neither are showing any sign of slowing down.

Worryingly for RIM the Blackberry platform got just 10 per cent of the vote . This paints a very different picture to 5 years ago when Blackberry was the undisputed king of the business sector.

The problem for RIM is that they are failing to compete with Samsung and Apple , while their recent server crashes have affected their brand image and perceived reliability. There is  still a chance for RIM to regain lost ground with its Blackberry smartphones, but this study reinforces that its not going to be an easy road back.

3G expect Samsung and Apple to invest heavily in the lucrative business sector in the next couple of years and we think it'll be hard for the likes of Apple and HTC to compete. However, we've been proved wrong in the past so we'll have to wait and see how things pan-out.
