Google Android Version Statistics Revealed

There has been four versions of Google Android to date. We started with version 1.5. and are currently at version 2.2. Some interesting statistics have been revealed by the Android developers for the last 2 weeks of June this year. The data is collected fortnightly from people visiting Android Market.

The latest figues confirm that 21.3% use Android 1.5., 23.5% use Android 1.6., 53.1% use Android 2.1 and 1.8% use Android 2.2.

We expect the Android 1.5. and Android 1.6.users to tail off gradually. In particular, the Android 1.6.users may even increase in the near future as this is still being shipped in some new handsets e.g. Sony Xperia X10 Mini.

Looking at Android 2.1 users we see that this has moved upwards to over 53% with many handsets like the HTC Hero helping the trend upwards. The new arrival of Android 2.2. is the future and although it claims only 1.8% of the pie, we have to remember it was only released in April with only the Google Nexus One users contributing to this figure for a while.

Android 3 – nicknamed Gingerbread – is thought to arriving sometime in October this year. More on all the above as soon as we hear.
