Overview

Samsung Galaxy S9

The Samsung Galaxy S9 looks set to be the Android flagship to beat in 2018 – and beating it could be very tricky, as it’s top-end in just about every way.

That starts with its big 5.8-inch screen with slim bezels and curvy edges. It’s Super AMOLED, so contrast is great, and it’s QHD+, with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 and a pixel density of 570 pixels per inch, so it’s very sharp.

It also has an innovative camera, with a 12MP lens that can switch between an f/2.4 and f/1.5 aperture depending on the lighting, allowing for optimal shots in all conditions. That camera also has optical image stabilisation, can record 4K video and can shoot slow motion footage at 960fps, which is far more than most rivals.

There’s an 8MP camera on the front, which can turn your face into an animated emoji in a clever twist on the iPhone X’s Animoji feature, and Samsung’s Bixby assistant is packed full of new features, like the ability to estimate how many calories are in your food and translate text simply by pointing your camera at it.

There’s a whole lot of power in the Samsung Galaxy S9 too of course, with 4GB of RAM and an octa-core Exynos 9810 chipset. That’s Samsung’s latest and greatest in-house chip with four cores clocked as 2.8GHz and four running at 1.7GHz.

There’s also a stylish metal and glass build with water resistance, plus an iris scanner, a fingerprint scanner, 64GB of storage and a microSD card slot.

The battery is 3,000mAh and can be charged fast or wirelessly, while stereo speakers ensure audio is better than ever and its heart rate monitor will help you track your health and fitness. This is a phone that really has it all and is sure to be one of the most popular of 2018.
