Read MoreThe iPhone XR is the relatively low-cost alternative to the iPhone XS, but Apple doesn’t do cheap or low-end phones, so this is still a serious piece of hardware, and at 6.1 inches its screen is actually bigger than the one on the iPhone XS, slotting in between that and the iPhone XS Max.
It’s a good screen too, with a pixel density of 326 (the same as the iPhone 8), and LCD tech that Apple claims is the most advanced and colour-accurate in the industry.
The iPhone XR is also very powerful, thanks to its hexa-core A12 Bionic chipset. That’s the first 7nm chip used in a smartphone and the same processor as you’ll find in the XS range, ensuring this is one of the most powerful phones on the planet.
First impressions should be strong too, as the iPhone XR has a high-end build with an almost all-screen front, a metal frame and a glass back. It can survive more than a splash as well, thanks to IP67 certification, meaning it can be submerged up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes.
Like its more expensive sibling it also has Face ID, which lets you unlock the phone just by looking at it and works more securely than most facial recognition tech.
The iPhone XR doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the camera either, as the phone has a 12MP one on the back, complete with features like smart HDR, bokeh, and Depth Control, which lets you adjust the depth of field after taking a photo. The 7MP front-facing camera is also powerful, as it leverages some of the Face ID tech for depth sensing, powering a great Portrait Mode.
And of course, the iPhone XR is running the latest version of iOS, so you get a slick, polished software experience.
