Overview

The Pixel 3 is the latest powerhouse from Google, designed to compete with the best flagships around thanks to its top-end Snapdragon 845 chipset and 5.5-inch OLED screen, offering bright, vibrant visuals.

The Google Pixel 3 is also an exceptional camera phone, as it has a 12.2MP camera on the back, the same one as the Pixel 2 – a phone which still has one of the best snappers around. But this year it’s got some new tricks, such as having Google Lens built into it, so you can point the camera at an object and have Google instantly identify it or find it online, or point it at foreign text to have it translated.

Other new camera tricks include a ‘Top Shot’ mode, which takes several photos before and after the moment you’re trying to photograph, then uses AI to select the very best one. Then there’s Playground mode, which adds reactive cartoon characters to your photos and videos.

The front-facing camera is also much improved, as it has two lenses, both 8MP, but one of them is wide-angle, so you can fit all your friends in your shots.

Of course, being a Google phone the Pixel 3 also runs the latest and purest version of Android. Right now that means Android 9 Pie, but it’s set to get day one updates to new versions, while most Android handsets will be waiting months.

Other highlights of the Pixel 3 include a security chip built-in to keep your data secure, all day battery life, wireless charging and a premium design, with a two-tone glass back, a metal frame and water resistance.

You even get some extras with the phone, like free unlimited original quality storage for all photos and videos uploaded from the phone to Google Photos until 2022 – and even then, everything you’ve already uploaded will still be available at full quality.
